About Sliding Puzzle Solver

Sliding Puzzle Solver is a free tool for anyone who is stuck on a sliding puzzle, whether it's a plastic 15-puzzle from a drawer, a level in a phone game, or a picture puzzle made from a photo.

What we care about

• Correct answers. The solver checks whether a puzzle can be solved before it starts searching, so you never chase an impossible board.
• Honest labels. The tool always tells you what kind of solution you're getting and how it was found.
• Privacy. Everything runs in your browser. Your puzzles and pictures are never uploaded.
• No friction. No account, no download, no paywall. It works the same on a phone as on a laptop.

How it's built

The solver is written from scratch and runs in a background thread in your browser. It uses breadth-first search for 3x3 boards, IDA* with pattern databases for 4x4 boards, and a row-by-row reduction method for larger boards.
